Singapore will be the first country to introduce the nationwide, common parcel locker network system with the first locker-trials to be installed in selected residential areas and MRT stations. Underpinning the parcel locker network system is the implementation of the TR61. The need for such a centralised parcel pick-up system has arisen amid a boom in online shopping, making e-commerce an invaluable economic activity. The parcel locker network system aims to be a delivery system combining productivity and efficiency, avoiding wastage, reducing the carbon footprint and forming an integral part of the logistics supply chain.
TR 61 purposes to standardize processes and messages of last mile delivery using parcel locker network. This TR defines and describes the datasets required and recommends a protocol for communication between the marketplace, retailers, sellers, logistic service providers (LSP) and parcel locker or collection point operators. Standardised data exchange formats will facilitate efficiency in processes relating to goods delivery and enable interoperability among partners.
