Falls from heights are the largest cause of death at workplaces in Singapore. This workshops
aims to heighten awareness on safe work at heights and provide guidance to users to meet
the safety requirements based on the SS EN131 series on ladders and SS EN 13374 on
temporary edge protection.
In light of the changes by the European requiring the latest EN 131 to be adopted for industrial
and commercial uses, and this would impact all ladders over 3m that qualify as leaning
ladders; the Workplace Safety & Health Council has adopted the SS EN 131 as an Approved
of Practice (ACOP) in Singapore. This workshop aims to assist ladder users, occupiers,
employers, distributors and importers of ladders to better understand the requirements
prescribed in the SS EN131. Registered participants will have a glimpse of these approved
ladder products on the event day.
Another area that needs to be urgently addressed is the edge protection systems to ensure
contractors and their employees, as well as general public, stay safe and secure. Hence, it
is important to ensure your edge protection system meets the highest standards of safety
and performance, and adheres to the SS EN 13373, which has been approved as an ACOP
in Singapore. The workshop provides an overview of the standard to increase the industry
awareness with the standard. It applies to edge protection systems for flat and inclined
surfaces and specifies the requirements for three classes of temporary edge protection.
