Synopsis
Introduction
Singapore currently produces less than 10% of vegetables and fish for local consumption. To strengthen domestic food security and contribute to long-term economic growth, we have set a nationwide goal to produce 30% of the country's nutritional needs locally by 2030. In the urban agriculture space, we have seen a increasing number of local urban farms that are adopting advanced technologies and smart farming systems to produce high agricultural produce which are fresh and clean (synthetic pesticide free).
SS 661: 2020 is developed to meet consumers' increasing demand for higher quality and more sustainable food sources. It aims to support the local farming sector to be more productive, innovative and resource efficient to enhance our nation's food resilience.
This standard strives to help urban farms establish a clean and green urban agriculture production system by optimising operational efficiency to grow food in a clean and sustainable environment. This will enable them to better brand their products and capture new market opportunities. The standard includes requirements on farming techniques, practices, and key indicators for farms to monitor their resource consumption and waste management, together with a specification for a quality, safe and clean product.
This event is co-organised by Singapore Manufacturing Federation - Standards Development Organisation and Republic Polytechnic. It is supported by Enterprise Singapore and Singapore Food Agency.
