Objective

Open innovation (OI) was hailed as a paradigm-shifting phenomenon that would enable firms, particularly Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), to tap into the knowledge, technology, and innovations that happened outside their firm’s boundaries at a lower cost than through internal R&D. However, a significant number of SMEs remain unaware or unsure about how to leverage OI.

In this workshop, I will delve into the fundamentals of open innovation and explore strategies for SMEs to expedite the adoption of OI in their innovation journey. Additionally, I will discuss how SMEs can leverage various public open innovation intermediaries in Singapore to discover innovative solutions for their business challenges. SMEs must acknowledge that operating in isolation is no longer sustainable. Instead, they must actively involve external stakeholders, such as customers, partners, and other organizations, in their innovation journey to thrive in the evolving landscape.
